A Confederacy of Dunces

An excellent read and a good find for a book. Great character development, but through the majority of it, I questioned whether the book really had a plot. Luckily, all came together nicely in the end, answering open ended questions with very satisfying results. I recommend it to those who have not crossed paths with it. What is even more interesting than the story and the infamous character Ignatius, is the author himself and the strange parallels between his own life and the life of this incredulous man he created. Unfortunately, Toole (the author) was unable to see his work published due to his tragic suicide ten years prior.

I'm always on the lookout for a good read. Recommendations? Anyone?

"If I took drugs it would affect my life cause I might get hooked on drugs and wouldn't be hel healthy and might have killed someone. If I get on fire it will affect my life cause I wont have one.

These are the words from a letter sent to me. Dominating the center of the page are the words "TOP Secret" written in big, bold, and poorly outlined letters. I quizzically questioned where these words of wisdom came from and when (judging by the weathered look of the envelope). Days later, after casually tossing the secret note at the top of a soon to be forgotten pile, I recognize the poor handwriting. It is my own. From some unknown elementary school day. I wouldn't have been able to recognize the writing if it weren't for my mother obsessively saving all the pointless things I've written from my childhood. Strange that I would be receiving a letter from myself almost 2 decades later. I marvel at the dedication of some teacher/religious figure that would be dedicated enough to wait 17 years to send me this pointless letter from myself that did nothing for solving my drug problem (alright, so I don't have a drug problem, but if I did). Interesting, because I think about myself, and do I have that form of dedication? Upon reflection of this interesting question, a loud resounding voice inside of my head says...NO!
